Holden & Salter is Josh Salter and Sam Holden: a builder's son and a joiner who joined forces to create homes they're proud to put their name to.
Our story
Our story
What began with kitchens, bathrooms, carpentry and smaller renovations has grown into complete home renovations, bespoke interiors and full design and build projects.
Where it began
A family building firm run by Gordon Salter and his son Josh, fitting kitchens, bathrooms and renovations around Maldon and Chelmsford for more than three decades.
The joiner
Sam Holden's carpentry business, known for bespoke joinery: the media walls, wardrobes and panelling that turn a sketch into something built for one room.
December 2024
After years working side by side, Josh and Sam made it permanent. The two businesses became Holden & Salter Design | Build.
April 2026
The partnership became a limited company, as the projects grew from single rooms to whole homes.
October 2026
A brand that reflects the work we do today: complete renovations, bespoke interiors and full design and build. Same team. Same attention to detail.

Josh grew up in the trade at his family's firm, G. Salter & Son, learning alongside his father on kitchens, bathrooms and renovations across Essex. He brings that experience, and the standards that came with it, to every home we work in.

Sam is the joiner behind our fitted furniture. He ran SJ Holden Carpentry before joining forces with Josh, and he's the one who turns a rough sketch into a media wall, a run of wardrobes or a fully panelled room.
